NOTICE OF INTERIM PUBLIC MEETING ON DECEMBER 5, 2019:

Two or more Port Commissioners may be attending a Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) representataives meeting and viewing of the Port properties, including the Illahee Community dock and floats, the 5500 Illahee Road property, and the 5507 Illahee Road property.  Subject meeting was proposed by the RCO Kitsap County representative, and is scheduled take place at 10:00 am on December 5, 2019 at the Port of Illahee properties. 

While no Port business will be conducted, when two or more Commissioners attend a Port related event, it constitutes a Public Meeting and must be noticed to the general public.

THE SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING ON 11/20/19 RESULTED IN A REVISED SURVEY FORM BEING MAILED TO RESIDENTS WITHIN THE PORT DISTRICT.  (Survey was revised to clarify purpose and goal statements based on the public response.)

RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY AND MAIL IT BACK TO THE PORT:  PORT OF ILLAHEE, P.O. 2357, Bremerton, WA 98310

SPECIAL PUBLIC HEARING.  November 20, 2019 @ 6:30 pm

2020 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO BE DISCUSSED.  The Port of Illahee has failing floats and pilings among other issues, that require major funding to correct.  The Port needs to update its Comprehensive Plan to be eligible for grant funding in the 2020 grant cycle, and the Comprehensive Plan is the first step in the process.  Public comments will be received at this important meeting.

MEETING CANCELLED, The February 13, 2019 Port Meeting Has Been Cancelled!

The Port’s February meeting has been cancelled due to access issues at new meeting location at 8050 Illahee Road. The next meeting of the Port will be March 13, 2019.

2/12/19 NEWS ITEM

The Port was awarded a Centennial Clean Water Grant years ago and a portion of the grant was set aside for a Public Information and Education (PIE) component. The PIE funds were used to help create a film called “Illahee Saving Puget Sound One Watershed at a Time” that was recently put on YouTube and is now available on TheLostContinent.org website at: http://www.thelostcontinent.org/film/ .

12/1/18 NEWS FLASH

On 11/30/18 the Port of Illahee closed on the purchase of the vacated Illahee Food Store.  The purchase is subject to a Sheriff’s Sale to take care of any outstanding legal issues, presumed to happen in early 2019.  In addition to legal issues with the property, the site is contaminated with leaking underground fuel storage tanks that not only impact store property but also extend into county right-of-way.  

The Port of Illahee moved forward with the purchase only after the State Pollution Liability Insurance Agency (PLIA) gave the Illahee site a ranking (Number 16) on their cleanup priority listing.  That high ranking assures eventual funding as the agency works down their list of approved cleanup sites.

The cleanup costs are noted in Cleanup Action Plan (CAP) for Illahee is $539,940.   A copy of the CAP is found at the following link 01-1129-B CAP-RT-ALLx.

While the possibility of other bidding for the store exists, it is anticipated the cleanup costs, coupled with the unknown issues with it going into the right-of-way, there will be no others bidding for the property.
